The Geomechanics laboratory (LGM) is one of five research units in ULB’s BATir department (Building, Architecture and Town Planning). It is part of the Brussels School of Engineering, itself a faculty of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). ULB’s Geomechanics laboratory has acquired expertise and insights into the behaviour of soil and rock when subjected to complex environmental pressures, be they mechanical, hydraulic, thermal or chemical.

The Geomechanics laboratory's contribution to the Brugeo project is its in-depth knowledge of the theoretical foundations that determine how closed vertical geothermal loops work. It also coordinates the entire project.
