Environment Brussels is the government body in charge of environmental protection and energy for the Brussels-Capital area. Two of its departments contribute to the Brugeo project.

The ‘Water’ department has a wealth of field data related to Brussels’ hydrogeology and aquifers. Its expertise in the area is necessary in order to study underground water flows in Brussels and their impact on the sizing of geothermal systems.

The ‘risk management’ department deals with environmental questions related to the installation and operation of geothermal systems, and plays a central part in the reflection on updating environmental permit rules for geothermal systems in Brussels.

Lastly, as a public entity, Environment Brussels acts as the interface between citizens and the project's internal developments.
